Condition



Some customers may comment on various electrical concerns with the following systems:



- Power door locks inoperative



- No start due to a dead battery or battery drain condition



- Fuel pump relay Inoperative



- Trunk release inoperative



- Rear defrost inoperative



- Fuel door release inoperative (Export Only)



Upon further investigation, the following diagnostic trouble codes may also be present: DTC U1084, U1059, U0140 (lost communication), B1325,



B0081 or B0074 (general electrical failure).



Cause



This condition may be caused by a loose connection at the rear fuse block connector X1, resulting in intermittent battery positive, ground, or signals



to the above systems.



Correction



Note



There are two bolt designs used to secure the fuse block connector X1.



First Design



In vehicles built prior to May 2009, the shoulder bolt in this connector will not stop turning - this is design intent. First, attempt to tighten the bolt in



the middle of the connector while listening for an audible click. This click should be heard within one revolution and heard every revolution



thereafter. If no click is heard until several revolutions, the connector may not have been fully seated.



Note



Do not exceed 4 +/- 1 Nm (35.4 lb in) torque as the vehicle may have the second design bolt. Refer to Second Design below.

Second Design



Beginning in about May 2009, a new rear fuse block connector was implemented that has a connector bolt that does not spin freely after it reaches



the end of the thread travel. The release of this new connector was staggered based on the vehicle's electrical options, so no definite VIN breakpoint



can be provided. If the bolt can reach a torque of 4 +/- 1 Nm (35.4 lb in), it has the new style connector. When servicing this rear fuse block, do not



over torque the bolt or it may break the boss for the bolt out of the fuse block. All 2010 model year vehicles have the second design bolt.



Remove the battery access door to gain access to the rear fuse block. Proceed with the following steps:



1. Identify which design bolt the connector has and tighten appropriately per the above instructions. The first design will click with each



revolution once it is fully seated. The second design must not be torqued beyond 4 +/- 1 Nm (35.4 lb in).

Important



Ensure that the connector is fully seated to the fuse block.



2. To ensure that the connector is fully seated, press both ends of the connector at the same time into the fuse block until you feel it stop.



3. Measure the connector in the location shown above to ensure it is fully seated into the fuse block. The measurement should be less than 9 mm



(0.35 in) and equal front to rear. Measure the connector engagement between the edge of the fuse block (1) and the edge of the black



connector (2). The dimension must be less than 9 mm (0.35 in). If it is not, press the connector into fuse block and take the measurement



again.



Note



The connector may spring back slightly or rock slightly end to end. Getting the connector evenly engaged and below the 9 mm (0.35 in)



dimension ensures reliable electrical function.



4. Recheck the system(s) operation. If the system(s) is now functioning properly, the repair is complete. If it is not, recheck the connector



measurement found in Step 3. If it will not press in below 9 mm (0.35 in), and the condition is still present, replace the fuse block. Refer to



Wiring Systems and Power Management in SI. If the measurement is good (below 9 mm (0.35 in)), refer to published diagnosis and repairs



in SI to correct the concern.



Note



If all the steps above are completed and the condition is still present, refer to Corporate Bulletin Number 08-08-44-019D.
