P0741

* DTC P0741 is a Type B DTC.

* Deviation between Engine speed and output speed is less than 30 RPM during lockup control is turned on.

* DTC P0742 is a Type B DTC.

* Deviation between Engine speed and output speed is more than 100 RPM during lockup control is turned off.

Diagnostic Aids

Ensure the transmission fluid level, color and odor is correct and there are no leaks. If there are any other transmission DTCs set, diagnose those

first.

Circuit/System Verification

Operate the vehicle in drive with the calculated throttle position greater than 8% and ensure TCC is commanded ON and OFF a minimum of 5

times.

Verify the DTC does not reset. If the DTC resets and no other DTC is set, go to Circuit/System Testing.

If any other DTC is set, diagnose that DTC first.

Circuit/System Testing

Dynamic Test

1. Perform the line pressure check. Refer to Line Pressure Check (See: Transmission and Drivetrain/Automatic

Transmission/Transaxle/Testing and Inspection/Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures/AF40-6 - Automatic Transmission/Line Pressure

Check).

2. Perform the transmission fluid check. Refer to Transmission Fluid Level and Condition Check (See: Transmission and Drivetrain/Automatic

Transmission/Transaxle/Testing and Inspection/Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures/AF40-6 - Automatic Transmission/Transmission

Fluid Level and Condition Check).

3. If all circuits test normal, replace the K71 Transmission Control Module. Verify the DTC does not reset.

瀚慖f the DTC resets, go to Component Testing.

Component Testing

Static Test

1. Inspect the valve body assembly for a stuck valve, debris, or damage.

瀚慖f a stuck open or closed valve is found, replace the valve body assembly.

DTC Descriptors

DTC P0741

- Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) - Stuck Off

DTC P0742

- Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) - Stuck On

Circuit/System Description

The torque converter clutch (TCC) pressure control (PC) solenoid is part of the control solenoid valve assembly which has no serviceable parts.

The TCC PC solenoid is a normally low pressure control solenoid. The TCC PC solenoid regulates transmission fluid to the TCC regulator valve in

the lower valve body and the TCC control valve in the pump cover. When vehicle operating conditions are appropriate to apply the converter

clutch, the transmission control module (TCM) will increase TCC PC current flow (duty cycle) to the TCC solenoid. The TCC PC solenoid directs

fluid pressure to move the TCC control valve to the apply position, and moves the TCC regulator apply valve to the regulating position. The TCC

regulator valve regulates TCC apply fluid pressure proportional to TCC solenoid pressure. When the TCC is fully applied, the engine is coupled

directly to the transmission. TCC release is accomplished by the TCM decreasing current flow to the TCC PC solenoid. This results in decreasing

the apply pressure which allows the TCC control valve to move to the release position. The TCM calculates torque converter slip speed based on

engine speed and transmission input shaft speed.
