Circuit/System Verification

1. Ignition ON, observe the scan tool ECM - Fuel Level Sensor parameters. The reading should be between 0.5-3.5 V and vary with fuel level.

2. Ignition ON, perform the Instrument Cluster Gauge Sweep test with the scan tool, verify that the fuel level gauge sweeps from its low to high

position

瀚慖f the fuel level gauge does not sweep, replace the P16 Instrument Cluster.

3. Command the All Indicators test ON and OFF with the scan tool, verify that the low fuel level indicator turns ON and OFF.

瀚慖f the low fuel level indicator always stays on or always off, replace the P16 Instrument Cluster.

Circuit/System Testing

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate fuel level sensor.

2. Test for less than 30 ohm at the low reference circuit terminal C.

瀚慖f greater than the specified range, test the low reference circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K20

Engine Control Module.

3. Ignition ON, test for 4.8-5.2 V between the signal circuit terminal D and ground.

瀚慖f greater than the specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K20 Engine Control

Module.

瀚慖f less than the specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace

the K20 Engine Control Module.

4. If all circuits test normal, replace the appropriate fuel level sensor.

Circuit/System Verification

Ignition ON, observe the scan tool ECM Secondary Fuel Level Sensor parameter. The reading should be between 0.9-4.98 V.

Circuit/System Testing

Note: If equipped, the following tests can be performed at an inline connector. See schematics for the appropriate circuit terminals.

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connectors at the fuel pump and sender assembly.

2. Test for less than 1.0 ohm between the low reference circuit terminal 4 and ground.

瀚慖f greater than the specified range, test the low reference circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests

normal, replace the ECM.

3. Ignition ON, verify the scan tool ECM Secondary Fuel Level Sensor parameter is greater than 4.75 V.

瀚慖f less than the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the ECM.

4. Connect a 3 A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal 1 and ground, verify the scan tool ECM Secondary Fuel Level Sensor

parameter is less than 1 V.

瀚慖f greater than the specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal,

replace the ECM.

5. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the fuel pump and sender assembly.

Component Testing

Note: This DTC only sets when test parameters indicate that an intermittent condition has occurred on multiple occasions. If the fault is not present

do not replace components. Test again, as you perform action to induce the intermittent fault (moving harnessess, terminals and connectors, etc.)

while observing the test readings.

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the fuel pump and sender assembly.

2. Remove the fuel pump and sender assembly from the fuel tank.

3. While sweeping the primary fuel level sensor through its full range of motion, test for a minimum value less than 41 ohm and a maximum

value greater than 119 ohm between signal terminal 1 and the low reference terminal 4.

瀚慖f not within the specified range, replace the fuel pump and sender assembly.

Repair Instructions

Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification (See: Verification Tests) after completing the diagnostic procedure.
