Subject: Air Conditioning (A/C) Blows Warm Air Intermittently
Models:
2010-2011 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Escalade EXT
2010-2011 Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado (Excluding Regular Cab), Suburban, Tahoe
2010-2011 GMC Sierra (Excluding Reg. Cab) Yukon, Yukon Denali, Yukon XL, Yukon Denali XL
Equipped with HVAC System RPO CJ2, CJ3 or C67
Condition
Some customers may comment that the HVAC system blows warm air when the controls are set to a "cool" position. This may be an intermittent
condition.
Cause
This condition may be caused by the A/C compressor clutch cycling out early when the low pressure side reaches approximately 380 kPa (55 psi).
The compressor may remain off for 10-20 minutes.
Correction
Important
Perform the reprogram procedure with the latest software before attempting any additional system diagnosis.
To correct the condition, reprogram the HVAC control head using the Service Programming System (SPS) with the latest software available on
TIS2WEB. Refer to the Service Programming System (SPS) procedures in SI.
When using a Tech 2(R) or a Multiple Diagnostic Interface (MDI) for reprogramming, ensure that it is updated with the latest software version.
During programming, the battery voltage must be maintained within the proper range of 12-15 volts. Only use the approved Midtronics(R) PSC 550
Battery Maintainer (SPS Programming Support Tool EL-49642) or equivalent during programming.
Note
Use the chart below to determine if the revised software was installed when the vehicle was manufactured. Each manufacturing plant has as
different breakpoint. Vehicles built after the breakpoint do not require the software update.
