2007 RESTRAINTS Supplemental Inflatable Restraints -CTS

DTC Descriptors
This diagnostic procedure supports the following DTCs:
l DTC 1052 PPS Preload Failure Region 1 l DTC 1053 PPS Preload Failure Region 2 l DTC 1054 PPS Preload Failure Region 3 l DTC 1055 PPS Preload Failure Region 4 l DTC 1056 PPS Preload Failure Region 5 l DTC 1057 PPS Preload Failure Region 6
Conditions for Running the DTC
Ignition 1 voltage is within the normal operating voltage range.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
The PPS will set a DTC when a region has detected a preload/pressure on it, refer to the table below for specific region.
DTC 1052, 1053, 1054, 1055, 1056, or 1057
DTC  Preload Regions
DTC 1052  Region 1
DTC 1053  Region 2
DTC 1054  Region 3
DTC 1055  Region 4
DTC 1056  Region 5
DTC 1057  Region 6

Action Taken When the DTC Sets
l The PPS will set a DTC then communicate with the SDM via non Class 2 circuit. l The SDM will set DTC B0092. l The SDM disables the instrument panel (I/P) module deployment loop. l The SDM commands the AIR BAG indicator ON via Class 2 serial data.
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
l The condition responsible for setting the DTC no longer exists. l You issue a scan tool CLEAR DTCs command. l A history DTC will clear once 255 malfunction-free ignition cycles have occurred.

Diagnostic Aids
When passenger seat bottom trim cover is serviced or removed, the trim cover, when reinstalled may apply certain unwanted pressure to the PPS causing DTC 1052-1057 to set.

1  Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check -Vehicle?  Go to Step 2  Go to Diagnostic System Check -Vehicle
2  1. Connect the scan tool. 2. Go to the passenger presence system (PPS) menu, then retrieve the DTCs. Refer to Passenger Presence System Displaying Code Procedure. Does DTC 1051 set as current?  Go to DTC 1051  Go to Step 3
3  Using the chart provided in the Conditions for Setting the DTC, locate the region associated with the DTC that is set. Did you find the region that is indicating a preload?  Go to Step 4  -
4  IMPORTANT: If preload DTC resets after adjusting the seat bottom trim cover, it may be necessary to perform this procedure again. 1. Adjust the passenger seat bottom trim cover or PPS assembly where the DTC code is set. 2. Use the scan tool and perform Passenger Presence System Preload Test, and then request codes. Does any preload DTC set after trying to adjust the seat bottom trim?  Go to Step 5  Go to Step 7
5  1. Remove the seat bottom trim cover and reinstall. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Passenger Presence System Replacement -Front. 2. Use the scan tool and perform Passenger Presence System Preload Test and then request codes. Did any preload DTC reset?  Go to Step 6  Go to Step 7
Replace the PPS. The PPS and seat bottom

6  cushion is only serviceable as a complete unit. Refer to Control Module References for replacement, setup, and programming. Did you complete the replacement?  Go to Step 7  -
7  1. Reconnect all PPS and SIR components. 2. Verify that all components, connectors and connector position assurances (CPA)s are properly mounted. 3. Use the scan tool in order to clear the DTCs. 4. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC as specified in the supporting text. Does the preload DTC reset?  Go to Step 2  System OK
